During his visit to Luxembourg, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács met with H.E. Gilles Roth, Finance Minister of Luxembourg, and Ms. Yasuko Muller, Diplomatic Advisor and EU Sherpa of Prime Minister Luc Frieden. They discussed, among other topics, the activities of our Embassy in Luxembourg, our diplomatic centennial, as well as the coinciding EU Presidencies.

21 May is the Day of Hungarian Defence, when we commemorate the formation of the independent Hungarian army in May 1848 and the recapture of the country's capital and Buda Castle from the Austrian imperial troops on 21 May 1849. On this occasion, H.E. Ambassador Iván dr. Tamás Kovács and Brigadier General László Kálló, Attaché for Defence, Military and Air Affairs, received at the Embassy the Heads of Mission accredited to Brussels and members of the diplomatic and military attaché corps.

On 13 May, the Hungarian Business Club Meeting in Brussels took place at the Hungarian Embassy in Brussels, jointly organized by the Commercial and Trade Office of the Embassy and the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This year's event focused on the economic policy priorities of the Hungarian EU Presidency. The discussions addressed the EU's competitiveness, enlargement, opportunities to boost free trade agreements, as well as the difficulties arising from the regulatory and administrative burdens on businesses, and potential solutions.

H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács handed over the Hungarian Golden Cross of Merit State Award to Doctor József Varga, the founder of the Hungarian No. 82. Báthory István Scout Troop.

On 24 April, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács gave a lecture to the members of the Flemish student association Katholiek Vlaams Hoogstudentenverbond (KVHV) at the University of Ghent on "Hungary's role in the EU".
