Homeland Defence Day at the Embassy
21 May is the Hungarian Homeland Defence Day in commemoration of the 21 May 1849 recapture of the Capital’s Buda Castle from the imperial Habsburg occupiers by the young Hungarian Army of our 1848-49 Revolution and Freedom Fight. On the occasion of the Defence Day, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács, together with Colonel Gábor Erbán, our Defence, Military and Air Attaché welcomed at the Embassy the Heads of Mission, members of the Brussels diplomatic corps, and the Military Attaché Community accredited to Brussels.
Brugge concert of the Budapest Festival Orchestra
On 21 May, the renowned Budapest Festival Orchestra performed at Concertgebouw in Bruges. H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács personally addressed and thanked Maestro Iván Fischer and the world-class Hungarian musicians for such an excellent concert.
Deputy State Secretary of the Hungarian Ministry of Justice in Bozar
On 10 May, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács received Mr. Balázs Molnár, Deputy State Secretary for Operational Tasks Related to the EU Presidency at the Ministry of Justice, in Brussels. Among other places, they visited BOZAR to explore cooperation opportunities during the upcoming Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, due in the second half of 2024. Our Embassy is looking forward to working together with our Hungarian colleagues and Belgian counterparts to make the crucial Belgian-Hungarian EU Presidency year of 2024 a success.
Europe Day in Luxembourg
On 9 May, our Embassy’s Luxembourg Office together with our Cultural Service, Liszt Institute Brussels represented Hungary at the Europe Day event organised by the Representation of the European Commission in Luxembourg. We were pleased to welcome all the interested public at our tent, including Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister of Luxembourg.
Meeting with the Director for European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg
On 3 May, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács had a meeting with Mr. Jean-Louis Thill, Director for European Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg. After exchanging views on current EU and bilateral dossiers, they discussed the preparations for the upcoming Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU and the diplomatic centennial between Hungary and Luxembourg, both due in 2024.
