On 22 February, H.E. Tamás Iván Kovács attended the GOVSATCOM 2024 International Space Conference in Luxembourg. During the event he met Yuriko Backes, Luxembourg Defence Minister, and they discussed the approaching Hungarian EU Presidency and the diplomatic centennial between Hungary and Luxembourg, both due in 2024.
On 27 February, the Hungarian women’s national football team played against the Belgian Red Flames in the League of Nations in Leuven. Colleagues of the Embassy of Hungary in Brussels cheered for the Hungarian team on the spot. We congratulate the Belgian team!
As part of the tour of the Belgian provinces and provincial capitals, in preparation for the Hungarian EU Presidency in the second half of 2024, on 19 February, H.E. Jan Spooren, Governor of Flemish Brabant Province, received H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács.
On 1 February, Claude Wiseler, President of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies, received H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács. They engaged in an interesting discussion on bilateral relations and the upcoming centenary of diplomatic relations between Hungary and Luxembourg.
On 2 February, Péter Szijjártó, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs had a bilateral meeting with Tinne Van der Straeten, Belgian Federal Minister for Energy. H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács attended the meeting. During his visit to Brussels, the Minister gave an interview to VRT.
On 29 January, representatives of the Belgian multinational logistics company Katoen Natie received H.E. Ambassador dr. Tamás Iván Kovács at the company's logistics headquarters in Antwerp. The meeting was attended by Ms Dorottya Bősze, Head of the Commercial Section and Mr Ari Epstein, Honorary Consul of Hungary in Flanders.
On 21 January, Szabolcs Nemes, Chargé d’Affaires attended the Hungarian Day organised by the Friends of Csókakő Association in Heffingen. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of ties between the twin cities.
On the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, a wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Kazerne Dossin Holocaust Memorial. On behalf of the Embassy of Hungary, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván and Honorary Consul of Hungary, Mr. Ari Epstein participated in the project “Every Name Matters” and read the name of one the holocaust victim.
On 18 January, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács and his wife, Dr. Edit Szepessy represented Hungary at the New Year’s Reception of H.R.H. the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess. The reception provided an excellent opportunity for a discussion with Luc Frieden, Prime Minister of Luxembourg on the 2024 diplomatic centennial between Hungary and Luxembourg and the approaching Hungarian EU Presidency.
On 5 January, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács and his wife, Dr. Edit Szepessy represented Hungary at the official opening of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU at Bozar.
