Annual report on the diplomatic and economic relations

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Budapest, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács has completed his annual report on the Hungarian-Belgian and Hungarian-Luxembourg diplomatic and economic relations, with Deputy State Secretary for European Affairs Ms. Krisztina Varju who is also the new Hungarian co-chair of the Joint Committees with Flanders and Wallonia. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to review the past year’s achievements of our Embassy, including the Hungarian V4 Presidency results, the Belgian-Hungarian diplomatic centennial and the preparation of the upcoming 2023-24 Spanish-Belgian-Hungarian EU Presidency Trio.

Meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium

On 26 July, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács met with H.E. Hadja Lahbib, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium at Mini-Europe miniature park. The parties had a constructive exchange on the achievements of the Hungarian V4 Presidency in Belgium, the 100th anniversary of the Belgian-Hungarian diplomatic relations, and the preparation of the Spanish-Belgian-Hungarian EU Presidency Trio starting in 2023.

Military parade on the occasion of the Belgian National Day

On 21 July, a military parade was held in Brussels, as part of the festivities of the Belgian National Day. The event was attended by the Belgian Royal Family, H.E. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, and several Belgian politicians. Hungary was represented by H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács. Following the parade, the Ambassador had a personal consultation with the Belgian Prime Minister on the 100th anniversary of the Belgian-Hungarian diplomatic relations, and the preparation of the Spanish-Belgian-Hungarian EU Presidency Trio starting in 2023.

Meeting with the Diplomatic Advisor to the Prime Minister of Luxembourg.

On 28 June, during his official visit to Luxembourg, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács held talks with Mr. Mike Hentges, Diplomatic Advisor and European Council Sherpa to the Prime Minister of Luxembourg. After exchanging views on current EU dossiers, the Ambassador gave an overview of the numerous successful events organised by the Hungarian V4 Presidency in Luxembourg. Ms. Andrea Hanzséros, our Chargé d’Affaires in Luxembourg also joined the meeting.

Hungarian Economic Club in Brussels

On 15 June 2022, the Hungarian Economic Club in Brussels was organized jointly by the Embassy's Foreign Economic Office and the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Liszt Institute. The event was opened by H.E. Ambassador dr. Tamás Iván Kovács. The theme of the evening was the current issues and economic aspects of the EU enlargement. In the framework of the programme, Olivér Várhelyi, EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Policy presented his thoughts, and Attila Galambos President of the Hungarian Chambers, Dr. Kristóf Szabó CEO of HEPA, Andor Deli MEP and Dr. Gábor Baranyai Deputy Permanent Representative to the participated in the panel discussion.

Visit of the Fulbright alumni

H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács received at the Embassy of Hungary in Brussels a delegation of the Hungarian Fulbright alumni, to whom he provided information on the current objectives of the Hungarian foreign policy and the work of the Embassy.
