At the commemoration held on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the death of Béla Bartók, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács laid a wreath at the composer’s statue in Brussels. Mr. Tamás Zsári contributed to the event.
On 19 September, Mr László Palkovics, Minister of Technology and Industry, had a meeting with the Belgian Federal Minister of Energy Ms Tinne Van der Straeten in Brussels on the current challenges and possible solutions to the energy crisis. At the bilateral meeting, our Embassy was represented by H.E. Ambassador dr. Tamás Iván Kovács and Dorottya Bősze, Economic and Trade Attaché.
On 24 August, the Embassy of Ukraine to Belgium, the Mission of Ukraine to the EU and the Mission of Ukraine to NATO organised a series of celebrations on the occasion of the independence day of the country. The event was attended by H.E. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission and Mr. Philippe Close, Mayor of the City of Brussels. Hungary was represented by H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács.
On 24 August, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács had a working lunch with Mr. Georges-Louis Bouchez, President of the Mouvement Réformateur (MR). They had a constructive discussion on the Belgian-Hungarian bilateral relations including the Belgian-Hungarian diplomatic centennial and also reviewed the Hungarian V4 Presidency results and the preparation of the upcoming 2023-24 Spanish-Belgian-Hungarian EU Presidency Trio.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Budapest, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács has completed his annual report on the Hungarian-Belgian and Hungarian-Luxembourg diplomatic and economic relations, with Deputy State Secretary for European Affairs Ms. Krisztina Varju who is also the new Hungarian co-chair of the Joint Committees with Flanders and Wallonia. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to review the past year’s achievements of our Embassy, including the Hungarian V4 Presidency results, the Belgian-Hungarian diplomatic centennial and the preparation of the upcoming 2023-24 Spanish-Belgian-Hungarian EU Presidency Trio.
Between 12 and 15 August the famous Flower Carpet has returned to the Grand Place of Brussels. This tradition dates back to 1971.
On 26 July, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács met with H.E. Hadja Lahbib, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium at Mini-Europe miniature park. The parties had a constructive exchange on the achievements of the Hungarian V4 Presidency in Belgium, the 100th anniversary of the Belgian-Hungarian diplomatic relations, and the preparation of the Spanish-Belgian-Hungarian EU Presidency Trio starting in 2023.
On 21 July, a military parade was held in Brussels, as part of the festivities of the Belgian National Day. The event was attended by the Belgian Royal Family, H.E. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, and several Belgian politicians. Hungary was represented by H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács. Following the parade, the Ambassador had a personal consultation with the Belgian Prime Minister on the 100th anniversary of the Belgian-Hungarian diplomatic relations, and the preparation of the Spanish-Belgian-Hungarian EU Presidency Trio starting in 2023.
On 28 June, during his official visit to Luxembourg, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács held talks with Mr. Mike Hentges, Diplomatic Advisor and European Council Sherpa to the Prime Minister of Luxembourg. After exchanging views on current EU dossiers, the Ambassador gave an overview of the numerous successful events organised by the Hungarian V4 Presidency in Luxembourg. Ms. Andrea Hanzséros, our Chargé d’Affaires in Luxembourg also joined the meeting.
