Celebration of the Hungarian Science in the Liszt Institute

In the framework of the „Celebration of the Hungarian Science”, the Embassy of Hungary in Brussels and Belgian Club of Hungarian Scientists organized a scientific evening with a virology and epidemiology focus at the Liszt Institute on November 10. The speakers of the event were Dr. Ágnes Galgóczi and Dr. Ferenc Jakab, who spoke about the control of the COVID-19 pandemic, about viruses transmitted from animals to humans, vaccines and vaccine authorization in Hungary. Dr. Cecília Müller, Hungary’s Chief Medical Officer also took part in the presentation, who was welcomed by H.E. Ambassador dr. Iván Tamás Kovács.

'56 National Reception for the international community

On the 22nd of October, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács gave a National Day Reception to the Brussels-based international community at our Embassy, where he spoke about the historical significance of the Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight of 1956. The event was attended by several key participants of the Belgian political and economic life as well as many members of the Diplomatic Community.

Commemoration on 1956 - mass in the Saints-Michel-et-Gudule Cathedral and wreath at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier

On 17th October, a Mass was held at the Saints-Michel-et-Gudule Cathedral in Brussels to commemorate the 1956 Revolution and War of Independence. This was followed by a candle and flag procession to the Monument to the Unknown Soldier, where the wreath of remembrance was laid. At the memorial, H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács delivered a ceremonial speech.

Inauguration of the new Honorary Consul of Hungary in Antwerp

Ari Epstein the CEO of World Diamond Center has been inaugurated as the new Honorary Consul of Hungary in Antwerp. At the ceremony participated Annelies Verlinden Belgian Minister of Interior, the Ambassadors of Hungary, Israel, the Czech Republic and several members of the Diplomatic Corps in Belgium, Belgian politicians, and the representatives of the Jewish Community of Antwerp. In his inaugural speech, Hungarian Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács emphasized that the nomination of a Honorary Consul in Antwerp brings Hungary closer to the Hungarian Community, and it strengthens the economic relations between Flanders and Hungary.

Ambassador's meeting with the leaders of Wallon Export and Invenstment Agency (AWEX)

H.E. Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács had a meeting with Mrs. Karelle Lambert, the Director responsible for Greater Europe at the Walloon Export and Investment Agency (AWEX), Mrs. Caroline Goffinon, area manager of AWEX, Mr. René Branders, Honorary Consul of Hungary in Wallonia and Mr. Vincent Libbrecht, International Operations Manager of Walloon Brabant Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The parties had an excellent discussion on Walloon-Hungarian economic relations and potential cooperation opportunities.

V4 Ambassadors' lunch with the President of the Flemish Parliament

Ambassador Tamás Iván Kovács hosted an informal working lunch with the V4 Ambassadors in Brussels. The guest of honour was the Speaker of the Flemish Parliament, Liesbeth Homans. During the discussion they exchanged views on matters of common interest, e.g. migration, demographic questions, labour market and economic challenges.
